At Dionyssiou Areopagitou one can go walking from Syntagma square or by metro to the Acropolis station, a few meters away is the new Acropolis museum and opposite is the Ancient theatre of Dionysus, a little bit further is the Herodes Atticus Odeon and after that is the way on the Acropolis. The hills of Filopapos and Pnix are near by as well as the ancient Agora, the temple of Hephestus the oldest neighbourhoods of Athens Plaka, Anafiotika and Monastiraki on the north west slopes of the sacred rock. SYNTAGMA- PARLIAMENT- TOMB OF UNKNOWN SOLDIER

 

Syntagma is the most important and the most famous  Square of Athens, The Old Palace, now days hosting the Greek Parliament is a 19th century neo classical building. Every hour the changing of the Guard ceremony performed by the Presidential Guards the famous ''Evzones".  The Square was designed and constructed in the early 19th century, shortly after King Otto moved the capital of the newly-born Greek Kingdom from Nafplio to Athens in 1834. 

 

PLAKA- MONASTIRAKI

 

A lovely walk in the foot of the rock of Acropolis. Enjoy the old traditional Athens through Plakas quarter  narrow streets. Tower of the winds , and the Choragic Monument of Lycicrates also located here. Historic byzantine churches dot the area to Monastiraki, also the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens.  Monastiraki means the little chapel in the middle of the Square, an amazing area for shopping!  The Roman agora also located in the area.

 

PSIRI

 

 Psiri is a must in Atheneans lifestyle, this small settlement is famous for the trendy bars, the art-cafe, the reastaurants, the traditional tavernas. Pure feeling of old Athens in the atmosfere!

 

ATHINAS Str. - KOLOKOTRONI Str.

 

This is the historical Athens commercial center, here located the Municipal foodcenter market of Athens (Athinas Str.). Aiolou Str. is a nice and always busy pedestrian street.

 

STADIOU STR.-OLD PARLIAMENT

 

 After Athens became the capital of Greece in 1833, King Otto selected it as temporary residence, pending the construction of the Royal Palace (which houses Parliament currently). The neo classical building hosted the Greek Parliament since 1843 to 1932, today is the famous National Historical museum of Greece.

In front of the building stands a large bronze equestrian statue of General Theodoros Kolokotronis.

 

KLAFTHMONOS Sqr.- MUSEUM OF CITY OF ATHENS- ACADEMY OF ATHENS -NATIONAL LIBRARY OF GREECE

 

A walk to the most famous streets of the historical Athens centre, from Klafthmonos Sqr. and the municipal museum of the city of Athens, to Panepistimiou Str. and to magnificent buildings of the Academy of Athens. National Library of Greece designed by the Danish architect Theophil Freihnerr Von Hansen as part of his famous trilogy of neoclassical buildings including the Academy of Athens and the original building of the University of Athens.
